Maroc Chalenge Rally

On Saturday, 31 March 2012, the second edition of the Maroc Challenge Rally will depart from Jávea traveling en route to Almeria,  where contestants will sail to Morocco.

Maroc Challenge is a genuine low cost raid, in which participants do not need a big sponsored team or a powerful car, but only to feel like stepping into a Moroccan adventure with an old or a classic car. It also has an added motivation, as participants take basic necessities products to African desert people in need they find along the rally route as they pass by.

This is the second edition of Maroc Challenge. The first edition was successfully held in December 2011 with loads of participanys and the victory of a team of Jávea in 4×2 SUV category. In this rally, participants will experience the same sensations as a driver in the Panafrica or the Dakar.

The Maroc Challenge runs along 2,000 kilometers of dusty routes and tracks of Morocco during  seven days, sleeping on camping or hotels (participant choice) in the way to reach the finish line at  Essaoira beach; all these driving a car registered before 1995 without exceeding the 80 km/h speed.

Those who are not going to participate, but  want to watch the cars can do that on 30 March during the technical inspection of vehicles and on 31 March at the start of the race.

Singular trees project in Jávea

The Town of Javea along with Cirne Cultural Foundation are working in a new project aimed to search and catalogue singular, centennial or unique trees in town and close areas of the Costa Blanca North.

The goal of this project is to conduct an inventory of local tree heritage and to promote actions which help to vindicate the historical natural resources of the town. One interesting way to inform the people about the valuable trees of the town is through the publication of a catalog which compiles the records of the specimens found, to be released along with an educational exhibition aimed specifically at schools.

Looking ahead, a documented guide to trees of interest could become a travel route for residents and tourists.

However, for all this could be possible, is essential the cooperation of citizens because most of these particular trees are located within private property and are difficult to locate if the owners themselves don´t report they have one or several in their properties.

The Mayor Office spokesperson has stated that having a monumental implies no duties or civil obligation different to not to cut it down. As a matter of fact, having a tree like these has the advantage to receive maintenance and pest management help from the Town

The data collection phase will last until next Autumn and will be centralized in the Department of Environment and Agriculture (Office of Citizen Services in Amanecer Avenue, # 2) and Cirne Cultural Foundation  offices (Avenida de Alicante, 18).

Montgo Park views

Next Sunday 29 January you all are invited to participate in a hiking activity aimed to expand our knowledge of ancestral Spanish culture through the Iberian settlements trail of Jávea‘s Montgo Natural Park.

This path is full of remains and historical places where the Iberians settled from the eighth century BC and started a civilization based in the trade with the Greek and Phoenician. In  this path we can appreciate an important Iberian town by Benimaquia highs, where were found Phoenician amphorae related to the processing and trade of wine.

The archaeological findings in the form of pottery, coins and ornaments in the Coll de Pous area and Plana de Justa from 4^th century BC and the Peña del Aguila’s defensive walls, confirm the presence of the Iberians in the area until 1^st century BC, making the place one of the main strategic spots of South East Mediterranean early civilizations.

Cycling Routes in Jávea

The new cycling guide has received high acceptance by tourists and residents of Jávea and today we want to share this information with you all.

This new guide includes 10 different tours throughout the Javea city limits, new routes with different difficulty level that run through beautiful places like Tossa, Gros, Tarraula, La Granadella Capsades Rebaldí and Les Planes aand several other thematic routes that invite us to know the history and beauty of Jávea parks and viewpoints, many of them easily reachable for the whole family.

The Department of Tourism of the city of Jávea specially recommends the following routes:

1. Route of Les Planes 17.77 km and moderate difficulty.

2. Miradors of 27.28 km route and classified as easy.

3. Port-Cala Blanca Road of 10.13 km and is considered moderate difficulty.

4. Rebaldí of 17.38 km route and moderate difficulty.

5. Route Volta Montgó of 26.49 km and classified as easy.

6. Capsades route of 13.33 km long and is considered hard.

7. Gross Tossal Route of 22.02 km, considered hard.

8. Tarraula of 18.65 km route distance and moderate difficulty.

9. Xàbia Parks Road:, 20.64 km  and moderate difficulty.

10. Granadella:  23.83 km route considered hard.

Sant Sebastia, Jávea Patron Saint

This month is going to takes place the festivities in honor of Saint Sebastian, patron saint of Javea. To mark this celebration, the town of Jávea has prepared a program of events that includes many new features such as the “bous al carrer” (bulls on the street), after 20 years of banning by animal rights organization. The new mayor has lifted the ban and once again bullfighting related activities are legal in town.

The Javea festival in honor of San Sebastian will take place from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 January 22.

The street bull events will be back in town on Friday 20 January at 17:30 and 22:00 h, Saturday 21 at 12:30, 17:30 and 22:00 h., and Sunday 22 at 12:30 and 17:30 hours. A bullring will be located in the Town Hall Square and the Plaza de Baix and the bull pen will be installed between the church and the Celestino Pons square, all these thanks to the efforts of Javea Bullfighting Association, which is working to bring the bullfighting back to town as it was several decades ago.

On January 20 “Day of St. Sebastian” there will be a drums and flutes parade,  bell tolling and free sweets for everybody following the parade between the two chapels before the mass.

Saturday 21 will bring a magic show for children on Casa de Cultura at 11:00 h. An hour later, at Baix square, Taurine Association will offer bullfighting related activities for children like rides on bogies (trucks with bull horns).

Jávea Public Library

  Today Thursday, 19 January we are all invited to the Jávea’s Town Public Library for the workshop   “Welcome to Reading”. The idea for this workshop came from a group of parents concerned by the proper development of reading capabilities of the kids at very early age and the importance of this while they are growing.

In addition to this, In order to making young children get interested in reading, there will be , several storytelling sessions  in the framework of the program “Pluja de Contes” (Tales rain) in the following dates:

Jávea’s Public Library (located at the old town, Calle Mayor # 9) was built in 1982 in order to house the headquarters of “Jesus of Nazareth” Agricultural Cooperative. This two floors building encloses an spacious inner patio that overlook a set of classical arches.

In addition, younger guests will also enjoy the representation classic theater play “Pinocchio” on Saturday 28 January at 17:00 h at Jávea‘s Casa de Cultura.

Jávea tours in English, German and French

Check below the schedule of guided tours for this year 2012 in Jávea. The Tourism bureau of Jávea has scheduled visits in English, German and French around Old Town in the following dates:

May: there are two scheduled visits, one on Tuesday 8 at 19:00 h.  in German language and  other on Tuesday 22 at the same time but with English speaking guides.

June: all three visits scheduled will be at 19:00h.: Tuesday 5 and June 26 will be in German and Tuesday 12 June in English.

July: There are four scheduled visits in July: Tuesday 10 and 24 July in English and Tuesday 17 and 31 in French.

August: In August there are 3 scheduled tours:  in French on Tuesdays 7 and 14  and in English on Tuesday 21.

September: Tour will be offered in English ( 4 and 18 September) and German (11 and 25 September).

All tours will depart from the Tourist Info Centre Xàbia and will follow the Old Town touristic route. The duration of the activity is about 1 hour and a half.

If you want to participate, you must register in advance at the offices of tourism of Jávea or phone calling to 965794356. The symbolic price of the tour is just € 2 for adults and 1 € for children.

Jayan movie theatre in Jávea

Once again, here we bring you the information about the movie screenings in Jávea’s Jayán Cinema / Sete Segell Film Club during Sundays  (at 19:30 h) and Mondays (20:00 h) in January, when the following films will be offered in original language and Spanish subtitles:

San Antonio, Patron of the animals festival

Jávea -like many towns in the Costa Blanca- will celebrate in the coming days the Festival of San Antonio, patron saint of animals. This time, The Tiraset group of Javea is on charge of the organization of several events for the amusement of all who wish to participate.

The first event for the festival of San Antonio in Jávea takes place on Saturday 14 January in the historic center of town. At 18:30 h. there will be a parade through the downtown streets which ends with the burning of a Pine tree at San Antonio.

On Sunday 15 January at 13:00 hours, all you can take your pets for the traditional blessing of animals in Constitution Square.

The last act of the Fiestas of San Antonio in Jávea will take place on Tuesday 17 January at 12:30 h on the Paseo del Puerto with another Animal blessing ceremony.

Additionally to the religious festivities, an attractions fair will take place Jávea from 8 to 22 January.

La Marina Cycling Tour

The town of Javea will have the privilege to witness the kick-off of the twenty-sixth edition of the Marina Alta Cycling Tour.

This first Stage (that will be held on January 15) of Tour of the Marina Alta will also award the San Sebastian Patron saint of Jávea Trophy. The competition will start at 10:00 h from Plaza of the Constitution (Constitution Square), in urban circuit mode in the route as in 2011.

After departing from the Constitution Square, the tour will follow the Constitution Square-Rafael Echagüe Street, Turn left at Cami Canons , turn right in the roundabout to Colomer Ave., exit tol CV 735- CV 735  Jesús Pobre bound, Gata Ave., Palmela Ave and Pla Ave., and turn left at the Juan Carlos I Ave.

Charity photographic exhibition in Jávea

 Xàbia Photographic Association (www.afxabia.com) has organized a charity exhibition at the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Soler Blasco of Javea, aimed to raise money to help in the purchase and training of an assistance dog for an autistic child of the town.

The members of Xàbia  Photographic Association have selflessly donated their photographs to be displayed at a museum Soler Blasco until 21 January, 2012. People interested in help for this cause can purchase any photographs for € 50.

the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum Soler Blasco of Xàbia is located at Primicias Street # 6, and  is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 h, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays open only in the morning . the museum is closed on Mondays.

The Three Wise Men in Jávea

Like every year, the Three Wise Men have found the time in their busy schedule to visit all the towns along the Costa Blanca, including a very special visit to the town of Javea.

On the occasion of this important visit, the town of Javea has organized several events for both children and grownups.

Wednesday, 4 January, 2012 at 17:30 h. the “Proclamation of the Royal Pages of Their Majesties the Kings of the East” will take place on in Placeta the

convent (Convent square) in Javea. After the proclamation, the Royal Pages will collect the wish list from all children in town.

Thursday, 5 January, 2012, is the most expected day for all children and adults: the Three Wise Men’s day. This magical day begins with the screening of the Disney Classic film “Blackbeard’s Ghost” at 11:30 h in the House of Culture. Later, at 19:00 h., is scheduled the arrival of Their Majesties The Magi in a spectacular parade through the city from Juan Carlos I Ave. , Avenida de Alicante, Ronda Norte, Príncipe de Asturias and finishing at the Convent square.

Trekking routes in Jávea

This last post of 2011 goes to athletes and outdoors lovers of Javea and the surrounding towns: let’s check what the upcoming year has prepared in the hiking routes scenario from March 2012 (when it will be officially inaugurated the hiking deason) until June.

Sunday 18 March, 2012: Montgo summit (PR-CV 355). Kick off at 08:00 h from the parking area of Javea Shooting Range. This route takes approximately 5 hours to be completed and is considered of medium-high difficulty.

Sunday 1 April, 2012: Port Of Javea-San Antonio Cape- Recreation Area –Sanctuary-Windmills-Port Of Javea. Departure at 09:00 hours from the parking lot of the Lonja del Puerto (Port Fish Exchange), the route takes 3.5 hours and the difficulty is low.

Sunday 15 April. 2012: Les Valls. This low difficulty route departs at 09:00 h from the parking lot of the new cemetery, with duration of 4 hours.

Sunday 29 April, 2012: Sanctuary-M ª de Deu dels Angels-Cova Tallada-Torre Gerro- Windmills-Sanctuary (PR-CV 355 route). This route kicks off at 8:00 h. from the Sanctuary. This low difficulty route has duration of five hours.

Sunday 27 May, 2012: Granadella Cove-Castillo (Teuleria way PR-CV-354). This route departs at 9:00 h. from the parking Cala Granadella, and takes 3 hours to be completed. For trekking involving the coves of Jávea is recommended to bring a camera and swimsuit.

Sunday 10 June, 2012: From Barraca to Cap Prim (SL-CV97 and SL-CV98). The meeting points for this activity will the parking lot of the Cala Barraca at 9:00 h.

Keep tune for more information about new organized trekking trips or changes in the schedule. It is important to remember that all organized trekking trips are free of charge and you have to bring suitable clothing and footwear, water and some food, depending on the length of the path.

The Three Wise Men

Children are the ones who most intensely live the holiday season, especially when Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men come to town. For this reason Jávea town have organized many activities to celebrate these special days and keep everybody entertained during the holidays.

Today, Tuesday 20 December at Xàbia Històrica (Old Town), all children are invited to enjoy the “kids’ Christmas morning” with placement of Christmas cards and singing of carols all around the Old Town.

Also in the Old Town, the Red Cross of Jávea  has set up a Playroom in Casal de Fogueres (En Forn Street). This children playroom will be open on 23 and 30 December from 17:00 to 20:00 h, when -among other activities- kids can write a letter to Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men.

On Friday 30 December at 11:00 you can enjoy in the House of Culture of the free screening of the movie “Merlin el Encantador” (The Sword in the Stone). The screening will be in Spanish language.

From Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 December, “Nadal Jove” (Young Christmas) event will offer a space for RC cars track, bouncy castles, adventure games and workshops for kids. This event will take place at the “Miguel Buigues Andrés” sports hall. Outside the sports hall there will be an area for teenagers and grown-ups where they can enjoy activities such as skateboarding, Rollerballs, Paintball, Bungee Jumping and Active Extreme Xábia. “Guyi Guyi” children’s theater play will be performed at the Casa de Cultura on Tuesday 3 January, 2012 at 17:00 h.

On Thursday 5 January, 2012 at 11:30 h. also at the Casa de Cultura, everyone is invited to the screening of the classic film “Blackbeard’s Ghost”. The screening will be in Spanish language.

Christmas market in Javea

Today, Friday 16 December, the Xàbia Professional Music School’s Woodwind Orchestra will perform a Christmas concert by the Orchestra in San Bartolomé Church at 20:00h.

For tomorrow, Saturday 17 December, the Merchant association of Xàbia Histórica and Jávea’s Economic Development Department have organized the following activities in the old town:

11:00 h: Christmas Fun Race. Race in costumes through the old town. Those who wish to participate must be at 10:00 h in the Placeta del Convento (Convent square) to register. great prizes for participants.

From 11:00 until 18:00 h:  International Christmas Market also at Placeta del Convento (Convent square). This International Christmas market will be a display of Christmas customs and typical food and decoration of many residents of Xàbia originally from other countries. Also in this place, Santa Claus will collect letters from children.

18:00 h: Awards ceremony of the Nativity scene contest. Venue: Casa de la Cultura de Jávea.

At 19:30 h, the streets of Xàbia Old Town will witness the “dolçaina and Tabalet” (flute and drums) music event performed by the Colla Xirimitab’s musical group.

21:00 h: Christmas Concert performed by the Choir of Jávea at the Church of San Bartolomé

On Sunday 18 December, the celebration continues in the streets of Jávea with the 27^th edition of the “Turkey” bicycle race of Jávea, departing from the Placeta del Convento at 10:00 h.

Nativity scenes in Jávea

  The traditional Nativity scene of Jávea is already open for the visitors of the Soler Blasco Municipal Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography located at Plaça dels Germans Segarra square # 1 (contact telephone number 96 579 10 98).

The museum’s opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 h. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10:00 to 13:00 h. The museum will close on Mondays.

The reason for locating this year the nativity scene model in the Soler Blasco Museum is because in this way there is no need for glazing the entire scene for protecting it from the weather. With no glass, it would be easier to contemplate the magnificent details of craftsmanship and small details of the figures.

This scale model takes careful detail about several scenarios and traditional Christmas scenes, as the baby Jesus crib, the procession of the Three Wise Men or the daily life of the shepherds.

One of the scheduled events related to Christmas and nativity scenes is the Casa del Cable exhibition about the work done by those attending the courses of  Nativity scene making organized this year.  The other event is the 5^th Jávea’s Nativity Scenes Contest awards ceremony that will take place on Saturday, 17 December at 18:00 h at the Casa de la Cultura, where also will be a christmas carol concert performed by la Rondalla Choral group.

Sporting events

We already know that sports in Jávea is very important and the town and different organizations and clubs work real hard to promote and come up with funny events, elite sporting competitions and all sorts of activities in between.

Saturday 17 December, 2011:

-   Jávea’s Old Town Christmas Race:  event organized the Llebeig Athletics Club together with Jávea’s Old Town (www.xabiahistorica.com) traders and merchants. The race will be held at 10:00 h in the Old Town in the framework of several activities suitable for all family members.

- 16^th Christmas Chess Tournament at the Palacio de Deportes de Jávea. The event will take place from 09:00 to 14:00 h and will be organized by Jávea Chess Club with the collaboration of the Department of Sports of the Town of Jávea.

- 8^th Edition of the Javea Sports Gala to be held at the Palacio Municipal de Deportes at 19:00 h. This event award the most important and successful athletes of Jávea in 2011.

Christmas Fair at the Port of Jávea

Today and tomorrow, Tuesday 6 December, everyone is invited to the Christmas Fair of the Port of Jávea organized by the Association of Merchants and Entrepreneurs of the Aduanes del Mar (ACEAM) in collaboration with the Department of Business Development ofJávea 

During these days, all the shops in the port area will display their products un the streets and will reward their customers who spend more than  € 15 with gift vouchers good for  horse carriage rides, bouncy castle admission and the children attractions installed in the Jaume I square.

You can tell the shops, bars and restaurants taking part in this fair for the red carpet at the front door and some stars located in the showcases.

Among the products available in this fair you can find clothing, jewelry, gifts, decoration items, books, delicatessen and perfumes and services like hairdressers and beauty salons.

Also, the bars and restaurants of the port area will offer special menus during the fair days (until 6 December) from 11:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 h.

You can visit the artisans stalls at Jaume I square, the Etreus witch’s magic shop or have a snack at the Oliva Negra mobile bar, where you can have crepes, soups, hot chocolate and wine.

Christmas Fair Jávea  Port will have a wonderful Christmas decorations, carols and of course the visit of the Three Wise Men, which will collect the Christmas wish lists from the children.

Turkey race in Jávea

Next Sunday 18 December, Jávea will host the 28^th Annual “Turkey” bicycle race. The race will kick off at 10:00 h, from the convent square, and will be led by Santa Claus in his own bicycle instead of a sleigh.

This event is organized and sponsored by Jávea  Cycling Club and Jávea Town’ Sports Department.

This year the Turkey race will comprise 3 laps around the next urban circuit:

Departure from Placeta the Convent (convent square) at 10:00 hours

Route start along Doctor Borull Street, Ondara Avenue and will take the left to Palmela Avenue, Jorge Luis Borges and Cabo la Nao road (CV-742).

The race will continue by CV-739 road, Arenal beach and Duanes del Mar before arriving to Avinguda del Puerto (Port Avenue) and the finish line in Avenida de Alicante, just in front of The Red Cross building. The tour consists of three previously designated laps. The completion of the race is estimated to be at noon. 

As a preview of 2012 sport activities, we can inform you that everything is ready for the 26^th Marina Alta Cycling Tour and St. Sebastian Cycling Trophy. This event will take place on Sunday 15 January at 10:00 h departing from Constitution Square of Jávea

Trekking routes in Montgo

A free hiking activity is planned for the next Sunday 4 December 2011 in Jávea’s Molins trail of the PR-CV 355 route from Montgo to Jávea Port. The trail will follow the following route: Jávea Port- San Antonio Cape- area Recreational – Sanctuary – Windmills area and return to the Port of Jávea. The alternative route of the PR-CV 355 is the Tango Cove trail.

It takes about 3 hours to complete this low difficulty route and those interested in participating have to be on Sunday 4 December at 09:00 h in the parking lot of the Port fish marketplace. All people attending have to carry enough water, food, proper footwear and also would be a good idea to bring a camera to take nice pictures of the path. It is not necessary to register in advance; just make sure to be on time in the meeting point.

This route runs entirety by the Montgo Natural Park, the last spur of the Betic mountain range. Montgo Natural Park is very close to the coastline, and connects with the sea through a plain known as “Les Planes”, which ends at steep cliffs of San Antonio Cape. This area is considered as the most spectacular coastline scenery on Valencia Region.

The coast surrounding San Antonio Cape was declared a Marine Reserve in 1993 due to its rich ecological diversity.

Festival of the San Juan Bonfires in Jávea

 Javea has formally demanded the “Nit dels Focs” (night of the fires) —which takes place every year from midnight of 23 June— to be declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in the Region of Valencia.

The Nit dels Focs (also called San Juan festival) is a very special day in Jávea. The residents pride in it and agree that this important title is a very good way to helping them share this event with the rest of the Region.

For this, the Town Council has prepared a dossier with all the details of this event and has sent it to the Tourism Director of the province of Alicante, so that they start with the legal paperwork.

Together with the dossier, a documentary was provided about the Fiesta. It includes interviews with senior citizens who narrate the beginnings of this celebration in the yesteryears and how it is celebrated today.

The documentary also has testimonies of L’Escaut and El Gerrot club members and the Queen of the Nit dels Focs Bonfires.

Now that the legal proceedings have started, Javea residents have to wait at least 6 months for receiving a decision of the Department of Tourism of Alicante and the Region of Valencia.

Javea already has a fiesta (Jávea’s Living Chess) as declared of National Tourist Interest 10 years ago.

Parkour Exhibition in Jávea

 On Saturday 3 December 2011, a parkour exhibition and worksjop will take place at Plaça Portal del Clor Square in Jávea, from 17:00 h to 21:00 h. This activity is part of a larger programme called Extreme Active Xàbia organised by the Jávea Youth Council —Monjove.

This event is specially targeted at the active and adventuring youth of Jávea and for anyone who wishes not to laze out the day on a couch at home. In November, similar activities such as BMX and skate exhibitions and workshops took place. For updated information about these and similar events targeted at a younger audience, please visit www.monjove.net.

Because of the growing popularity of parkour, this workshop and exhibition will surely gather a big crowd.

Parkour is the art of moving from one point to another in the most fluid possible way, using the skills of your body. It is considered by many as an extreme sport, as it also implies avoiding obstacles, making your own way and overcome walls, trees, rivers, rocks, etc. It will all depend on the setting where parkour is practiced. There are not any rules. Only one thing is demanded: Spirit of self-improvement. Its motto is: “To be and to last” without putting oneself in dangerous situations, trying to go one step further every day and not to challenging others, but yourself.

Those interested in this subject can come and join the parkour exhibition and workshop on 3 december 2011 in Jávea.

Christmas Charity Bazaar in Jávea

On Saturday 26 November 2011, a Christmas Charity Bazaar will be held at the Parador de Jávea from 16:00 to 24:00 hours.

This Christmas bazaar is aimed to raise funds for “Condenados al Bordillo” and “Fembanda” charities and organized by Mediterránea Eventos in collaboration with Jávea Entrepreneur Women and sponsored by the Jávea sculpture Toni Marí Sart, a native of Jávea which will exhibit his work that afternoon. Toni Marí Sar artistic work is based in iron shaped figures that will for sure bring loads of people to the Bazaar.

The event will  start at 16:00 h. and the organization committee promises to offer an evening full of surprises with face painting workshop and exhibition of miscellaneous items and an afternoon where you can taste tea and canapés, a glass of champagne or even one of the new dishes offered by the Parador de Jávea. They have also organized a fall-winter collection fashion show for women and children at 17:30 h., live performance of the “Orfeón de Vergel” Choir at 20:30 h. and the performance of “Atrescuerdas” group at 22:00h. There will be two raffles to raise funds for the charity at 21:30 and 22:30 hours.

The admission to this event (bazaar, exhibitions and performances) is free of charge.

Celia Mur Concert

Next Thursday 24 November at 20:00 h we are going to have the opportunity of enjoy a concert of Celia Mur  in the framework of the Cycle Women, Music and Love, in the Casa de Cultura de Jávea.

Celia Mur is a Spanish singer of jazz and fusion, with modern and flamenco-classical training. She started her adventures in the music inspired by his father, the composer and flamenco guitarist Antonio Moya Fernandez, who guided her in her first contact with the Spanish music and flamenco.

In her performance in Jávea, Celia Mur will present her work “Simpatía” recorded in New York and Zurich, directed a produced by Celia Mur herself  and Swiss pianist Chris Wiesendanger, and with the collaboration of musicians of international relevance, such as Mark Turner, Antonio Sanchez and Ben Street. Celia pays special tribute to her father -the composer Antonio Fernandez De Moya from Granada- through the performing of modern jazz sound hand in hand with flamenco and Brazilian sound.

Mur has just released a new CD of Coplas music with Cadiz flamenco guitarist Nono García.

Certainly Celia Mur is a versatile singer who will make enjoy all those attending her concert in Jávea.

Exhibitions in Jávea

Since Last Friday 11 November, the Pepa Espasa Art Exhibition is open to the public at Ca Lambert Exhibition Hall.

The exhibition was named “Un Cant a L’Esperança” —A song for hope— as a reflection of the empathetic links between women, the magic ability to interpret their silence and the need of expressing it. The exhibition is organised to remember and honour Nadia Anjuman, who was killed by her husband because of the publication of a poetry book, which was considered a crime. The exhibition includes alternative activities such as a poetry recital and a piano concert by Marta Espinos.

The exhibition will be open to the public until 9 January 2012 and is organised by the Equality Council of Jávea.

Tribute to the International Brigades

Tomorrow, Friday, 18 November, 2011 will be held in Jávea a tribute to the International Brigades that fought in the Spanish Civil War. This event will be organized by a group of residents of Javea from 19:30 h at the Casa de Cultura in Plaza de Baix and all interventions will be in English and Castilian Spanish.

Linda Palfreeman -British historian and writer based in the province of Alicante and professor at the University Cardenal Herrera de Elche- will open the  act with a lecture titled “Health: the British contribution to the medical Republican Spanish Civil War from 1936-1939″. This lecture is the same she imparted in the Memorial Trust Conference of the International Brigades which took place in March at the Imperial War Museum of London.

After Palfreeman ‘s speech Maggie Morgan and John Catanach –both residents in Xàbia- will contribute with their  memories about their relatives who fought in Spain with the International Brigades, an organization that gathered thousands of people from over 50 countries who traveled to Spain to fight for the Republic.

Jayan movie theatre in Jávea

Below we show you the information about Jávea’s Film Screenings in November 2011 offered by Sete Segell Film Club in theaters  Jayan of Javea. The sessions will take place on Sundays at 19:30 h. and Mondays at 20:00 h.

On Sunday 13 November and Monday 14 November, “No habrá paz para los Malvados” (“No Peace for the Wicked”) will be on in Cine Jayan. This Spanish film -directed by Enrique Urbizu and starring Jose Coronado- tells the story of a police inspector involved in a triple murder, and the only witness of the crime who managed to escape from the cop who wants to kill him.

On Sunday 20 November and Monday 21 November, the movie “Jodaeiye Nader az Simin” (“A separation”, as titled in English) deals with a new wave of free conception of Iranian cinema and an open critic to the role of the segregated women in the Persian society. This movie was banned in its own country because it was considered offensive for Iranian moral parameters.

Sunday 27 and Monday 28 November, the film “The tree of life” will tell the story of a American Midwest family in the fifties. This film follows the life journey of Jack, the eldest son,  from the innocence of childhood to the disappointment of his adult years in an attempt to reconcile the complicated relationship with his father. 2011 American film starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain.

Bike lane in Jávea

Next Sunday 6 November will be held the 9^th  Javea Bike Day, a fun sport event for both children and adults to enjoy a nice outdoors morning.

Those interested in participating should be at the sports track of the Graüll Public School (Pda. Freginal) at 10:00 h, from which all participants will depart with destination Pinosol Park.

This recreational family activity is organized by the Cycling Club of Javea with the collaboration of the Sports Council of the Town of Jávea.

Last week ( October 23, 2011) was held the Eighth Bicycle Day in Javea and was a total success, where more than 500 people -both children and adults- gathered in the athletic track of the  Graüll school and had fun driving their bikes through  Augusta Avenue and El Arenal,  reaching Pinosol Park, where the Jávea Cycling Club offered sandwiches and drinks to all participants.

Help Jávea Cycling Club set a new record on Sunday, 6 November 2011, and enjoy all the surprises that are preparing to that day.

Jávea Town Hall

Residents of the town of Javea now can use the indoor pool located in Poble Nou de Benitachell at a spacial price, thanks to an agreement formalized by the Town of Jávea and the Poble Nou de Benitachell wich allows neighbors town residents to pay cheaper fees for use of the swimming pool.

The agreement, -which must be endorsed by the plenary of the two towns-, includes discounts for all registered  residents of Jávea, after a top  payment of € 12.000  fee  that Jávea town will pay to Benitachell, depending of the Javea residents affluence.

The special admission fee for Jávea residents will be as follows:

Single entry to the pool area: € 2 (€ 2.70 regular rate).

Monthly Pass: € 15euros (€ 20 regular rate).

Quarterly Pass: € 70 Euros (€ 90 regular rate).

There will also be different activities at the Municipal School such as swimming lessons for children aged 5 to 12 years and swimming therapy, aimed at people with health problems or who need physical rehabilitation.

Jávea Yacht Club

Lovers of fishing sports have an appointment this weekend with the XX Jávea local trolling fishing contest organized by the sport fishing office of Jávea Yacht Club.

Participants will depart from Port of Jávea on Saturday 29 October at 08:00 h. and return at 18:00 h., when they have to perform the weighing of the catch taken by each one of them and establish the winner of each category, both in total weigh and largest single catch categories.

The competition categories are shallow and deep trolling with artificial bait and it is totally forbidden to use living bait and Spinning.

Those who want to see how the fish weighing it’s done have to know that only pieces form 40 cm length and longer will count, so fishes smaller than that won’t be considered valid pieces for the contest. Fishes as albacore, big-eyed tuna, marlin and sailfish need to meet the Mediterranean fishing law of protected species. The Fishing of Bluefin tuna and swordfish are forbidden.

Traditional Boats

The 9th annual Meeting of Traditional Boats will take place in the port of Jávea from Saturday 29 October, 2011, organized by the Associació de Barques tradicionals (Association of traditional boats) of the town. The meeting will begin on Saturday 29 and end on Monday 31 October (All Saints Day) and during these three days are scheduled activities like sailing, traditional fishing, screening of documentaries, traditional food and music performances, art exhibits and sailing workshops.

The Association of traditional boats of Jávea is composed by a group of people from different professions but with a common interest: the love of maritime heritage, vintage boats and the almost forgotten tradition of the sea related occupations.

During the year, this association carries out different projects to restore old boats, organize traditional boats meetings of in the port of Javea, restoration workshops, and exhibitions of crafts.

Vocapella Concert in Jávea

Vocapella is a choral group from Bielefeld (Germany’s largest city in the region of East Westphalia-Lippe) formed by about 40 singers who gather to rehearse and sing in Municipal Hospitals Bielefeld, Christmas fairs, private parties for members of the choir and also for international tours every two or three years.

This time the cities of Denia and Jávea were chosen for this group to perform as a part to the Spanish leg of their international tour 2011.

Vocapella will perform in Denia on 27 October at 20:30 h in the Social Centre Auditorium of  Denia and on Friday 28 October at 20:00 h in the Jávea’s Academy of Music (C / Rafael Echagüe # 5) .

Their repertoire includes madrigals (songs from the 1920’s films) under the direction of Annegret Rey.

In Vocapella performances we can enjoy well known pieces as “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” from the The Wizard of Oz, “As Time Goes By” from Casablanca or “Hallelujah” from Shrek.

Definitely this will be a real good opportunity of enjoy a high level concert of one of the best vocal groups of central Europe.

The Rotary Club Javea

On 24 October, Rotarians in Spain are launching a campaign to create awareness for the eradication of the polio virus. UNICEF and World Health Organization have now the support of Rotary International, the largest organization of entrepreneurs and professionals who provide humanitarian services around the world.

Celebrities from television, film, music, fashion or sports have joined this initiative. Locally, the Rotary club of Jávea has the support of the extreme athlete Ignacio Cardona, Ana Watt, sculptor Toni Marc  and avant-garde artist Teo San José.

Since 1985, the eradication of polio has been the main goal of Rotary worldwide . Rotarians around the world through The Rotary Foundation (based in USA) has contributed more than $ 800 million and countless volunteer hours to the protection of more than two million children in 122 countries . The disease remains endemic in only four countries – Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan – although other countries remain at risk of imported cases.

Polio is a viral disease that can affect nerves and lead to partial or total paralysis.

Between 1840 and 1950, polio was a worldwide epidemic, but since the developed of polio vaccine, the incidence of this disease is greatly reduced. Polio -which has already been eradicated in many Western countries- is still present in several countries in Africa and Asia. Outbreaks still occur in developed countries, usually in groups of people who have not been vaccinated.

Next 24 October marks the World Day against Polio, a battle that needs a last effort to be won. Rotary Xàbia wants to take this opportunity to raise funds for this fight. Xàbia’s Rotarians, along with UNICEF, will gather next Sunday 23 October at noon by Rotary roundabout in  Pla road (front of the  Iceland supermarket), where there will be a gastronomic festival to raise funds for the cause.

Exhibition in Jávea

Today Monday 17 October at 20:00 hours, you can enjoy a film night at Jayan Theatre in Javea with the screening of the movie “Le code a changé” (Change of Plans), a  French film in original language with Spanish subtitles part of the film series “Sete Segell Film Club”

On Friday 21 October at the Casa de la Cultura de Jávea, Pia Tedesco will perform her musical show “Caberet” in the framework of the “Women, Music and Love” entertainment cycle. Time: 20:00 h.

On Saturday 22 October also at the Casa de la Cultura of Jávea, Edu Borja will perform his puppet show “Gerontoshow” at 17:00 and 18:30 h in the Valencian language cycle “Titelles in la nostra llengua” (puppets in our language). This show is aimed to children from 2 to 12 years old.

On Sunday 23 October there will be a new movie session of the “Sete Segell Film Club” in Javea’s Jayan theaters, with Argentinean movie “The Man Next Door”, directed by Mariano Cohn y Gastron Duprat.

Also from Saturday 15 October you can enjoy the paintings and sculpture exhibition of Antonio Santacreu and Alicia Ripoll at Al Marge Art Gallery and the fast painting display at the Casa Del Cable, open to the public until November 1.

Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012

The Race Village of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 will open at the port of Alicante on 14 October, the same day that will begin three busy weeks of activities in Alicante in the framework of the regattas and races of the Stage 1 of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012 that will connect Alicante to the South African port of Cape Town in a route of 6,500 nautical miles (12,038 kilometers) on 5 November 2011.

There are 40 different activities scheduled to fully open access,among  we can highlights the museum of the Volvo Ocean Race, which will have one permanent exhibition and a temporary one, where you can  observe the work in the control room of the race where the fleet is monitored 24 hours a day until the arrival to Galway (Ireland) next July 2012.

After enjoying all the events programmed in the framework of the regattas, the real kick off will be on 29 October with the In-Port Race or shore Regatta, a fast and tactic race that will take place at the spectacular Alicante’s waterfront. The winner of this event will be the first leader of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012.

On 30 October the Pro-Am Race will take place as an special event  with the presence of guests on board the ships, and later from 1 to 5 November, the Legends Regatta and Reunion will gather racing boats and crews who participated in the 38-year history of the race.

The last day of activities will be on 5 November with the starting of the Stage 1 of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 with destination Cape Town port.

Valencia Region Day

Once again like every year,  the town of Jávea has organized several events to celebrate the Day of the Valencia Region on 9 October, as this day marks the entrance to the city of Valencia by King James I in 1238.

The scheduled events will start on 6 October at 20:00 h, with a Ignaci Mora Lecture in the House of Culture about the Arab-Valencian Poetry.

On 7 October  there are two scheduled events: one at 10:30 h in the C.P. Graüll, starring Scura Splats performing  the play “Monsters”, and  the other  will be the “Musical Arts Center Concert” which will take place at 22:00 pm in the Church of Sant Bertomeu.

Parallel to the events organized to commemorate the Valencia day, the following acts will also take place in Jávea:

Friday 7 October at 18:00: Storytelling in the library of Jávea with the tale “The Princess and the Pea”

Saturday 8 October from 17:00 to 20:00 h: XXIV Miguel Buigues Memorial basketball championship at the Palacio Municipal de Deportes, organized by the Club Básquet Juventud of  Xàbia with sponsorship  of the Sports Council  of Javea.

Sunday 9 October form 9:00 h: Montgò Summit Hiking trail (PR-CV355) departing from the parking lot of the Javea’s shooting range. The route takes about 5 hours and is considered upper-medium difficulty. It is recommended to bring water, lunch, appropriate footwear and camera.

Baix Montgò Race

On Saturday October 8, 2011 we all have a sport appointment in Jávea. This time all cross country competition enthusiasts will enjoy the The 11.4 km Annual Baix Montgó Cross Country race from Jávea to Jesús Pobre town.

The event will take place on Saturday 8 October at 18:00 h from the Marina Alta square in Jávea (just in front of the post office) to the finish line at the Plaça del Poble in Jesús Pobre.

This race is already a well-established sport meeting in Jávea and Jesús Pobre towns as well as the rest of the Marina Alta. This year’s edition is organized by the Llebeig Xàbia Athletic Club and La Faixa Athletic Club of Jesus Pobre town. This event is sponsored by the Festers del Cabrerot, City of Javea and Jesus Pobre Parrish.

Those interested in participating in this competition have to sign up before 6 October at 20:00 h, because there won’t be registrations the same day of the test. Runners who already have the Circuito Marina Alta 2011 Red Chip won’t be charged with enrolment fee, the rest must pay enrollment a € 4 fee.

There will be two hydration points at km 4 and 8, and the showers will be available at the Jesus Pobre’s Sports hall (just 150 meters to the finish line).

A shuttle bus service will be available to take the runners back to Jávea at the end of the race.

I Gymnastics Exhibition in Jávea

Today Sunday October 2, 2011 you have the opportunity to enjoy the I Jávea Gymnastics Exhibition and see the athletes competing at national level in rhythmic gymnastics. Fans can enjoy an exhibition in the Palau Miguel Buigues Andrés from 11 in the morning.

This event is organized by the Rhythmic Gymnastics Club of Xàbia. The show will begin at 10:00 h and will be a great opportunity to monitor progress of the gymnasts training after summer and before the pressure of national competitions.

As the club states, this is going to be a  good opportunity to see  athletes both from the club and coming from  the international competition circuit who are not easy to see competing, at least if you don’t travel to a big city. They are gymnasts as Natalia Cholbi, Sheila Doblado, Marta Villar or Lucia Caballer.

In addition to these athletes, infantile athletes such as Aitana Martínez, Clara Caballer, Laura Jaque, Vera García y Lucia Batalla, En alevines Lauren Douglas, Elena Mari, Maria Signes, Nera Chorro, Cristina Gallego and Lorena Bertomeu will be participating in this event.

In addition, on 15 October 2011, we will have the opportunity to see them at full capacity, in an official, nation valid competition at the Miguel Buigues Andrés sporte palace from 09: 00 to 14:00 h.

Art exhibitions in Jávea

During the month of October we will have the opportunity to enjoy a good example of fine Art in Jávea with the exhibitions organized on Al Marge and Ca Lambert.

Al Marge exhibition hall (Virgen del Pilar St,  9. Historic Center of Javea): This place brings the work of two great Bosnian-Serbs artists Mirjana Lucic and Milivoje Unkovic.

MilijoveUnkovic , Doctor of Fine Arts, is a prestigious and renowned artist in the Balkan area.  Unkovic exhibits his works in Spain for the first time, presenting a series of paintings and engravings made during the last two years. His magnificent work parts from Central European influences enriched by an absolute mastery of drawing and using more varied techniques. His extensive work experience contributes to a strong, mature and unique artistic expression.

Mirjana Lucic,  who also has a PhD in Fine Arts,  presents a intense, developed and personal work in the solitude of her Andalusian studio, diving into her soul with no concessions to the outside and getting influences from new sources which are continuously updated.

In the Ca Lambert exhibition hall (Major St., 42), we will enjoy until the exhibition of the sculptor Remigio Vidal until 30 October. This sculptor shows his great modeling skill due to its more than 30 years experience in creating sculptures for different sectors. Now, through the creation of his own collection, the author brings his personal vision of the world of sensations, lighting changes and interrupted surfaces. The creative process of each of its limited and numbered series, includes design, modeling, casting, and subsequent hand polishing, making each piece unique. The exhibition opens on Friday 7 October  at 20:30 h.

Tapas tasting in Jávea

The 5^th Edition of “Tapeo” Tapas tasting in Jávea will take place in the historic old town of Jávea in the Plaça de la Constitució (market square) on the weekend of 1 and 2 October.

The idea of making a Tapas route was undertaken by the Association of Merchants and Businessmen of Xàbia Historic Center with the sponsorship of the Economy Council and Jávea Town for the fifth consecutive year of good work, superb dishes and the nicest service.

It is estimated that 12,000 people from all nationalities who lives in the region, enjoyed the “Tapeo” weekend last year amidst a great atmosphere, performances and of course the local cuisine.

This year the TAPEO 2011 schedule will be Saturday, 1 October 2011 from 11:00 to 16:00 h and 18:00 to close and Sunday 2 October, 2011 from 11:00 to 16:00 h. Besides tasting tapas, visitors can enjoy the following performances:

Tapas in Jávea

If you are going to be this weekend or during the next few days in Jávea, here’s a brief summary of events and activities scheduled for the coming days.

For basketball lovers, today and tomorrow -Sunday 25 September- you can enjoy the 1^st Trophy basketball “Joventut Xàbia” organized by the Basketball Club of Javea. The event will take place at the Migues Buigues sports hall from 10:00 h to 22:00 h.

On Sunday 25 September, everyone is invited to participate for a good cause in the VI Race for Life Xàbia, organized by the Cancer Association and sponsored by the Sports Council of Javea. The starting point of the race will be at Paris Avenue, opposite the L’Ancora Tennis Club at 11:00 h.

On Tuesday 27 September, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a guided route across the old town of Jávea, available in English language for convenience of the Anglophone residents or those who visit the city during these days. The route starts from the Tourist Info Centre at 19:00 h.

And finally, to whet your appetite, we inform you that the Commerce Association of Javea, is organizing for 1 and 2 October at the Plaza of the Constitution the “Tapas Tasting 2011” with the participation of  a rather large number of participating and some very tasty surprises.

Workshops in Jávea for people 30 and up

Today we want to inform our readers about the cultural workshops organized by Jávea City Council over the coming months. These workshops are aimed to citizens over 30 years old.

The deadline for registration is 26 September and the deadline for enrollment confirmation will be the day after.

Pre-registration can be made by e-mail at cultura@ajxabia.org or in the la Casa de Cultura (Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:00 h and from 17:00 to 20:30 h), indicating name, surname, e-mail and phone.

The courses offered are quite varied, among you can find: patchwork, introduction to theater, furniture and antiques restoration , pilates, photography, ecological and vegetarian cuisine, painting plaster nativity figures, course of monologues and sketch humor, creative writing, yoga relaxation and meditation, tasting and wine culture, agro-ecology for home gardens, belly dancing, ceramics, tai chi, ballroom dancing, watercolor, course on emotional intelligence, easy cooking course, introduction to basic Internet surfing, digital photography and Photoshop, basic course of flamenco music, Sevillanas dance course and an astronomy workshop.

It is important to you to know that the courses will be opened just if a minimum amount of people decide to enroll.

I “Joventut Xàbia” Tournament

On the weekend of 24 and 25 December 2011, Jávea holds the I “Joventut Xàbia” Tournament organized by the Club de Baloncesto de Jávea —Jávea Basketball Club. This tournament is for girls and boys 10 to 12 (infantil) and 13 to 14 (cadete).

The “Joventut Xàbia” (Jávea Youth) basketball club and the Town Council will organize together the first tournament for girls and boys 10 to 14, on the weekend of 24 and 25 September.

The sign-up fee is €80 and is limited to 15 kids per team. The deadline to register was Monday, 19 September. Additional information can be get by e-mailing at info@joventutxabia.org.

There will be a maximum of 2 groups with 4 teams each per category (infantil and cadete). They will play on a league scheme and the first classified teams will play one against the other. This means each team will be able to play at least 3 times. The games will take place from 10 to 22 h at the Palau d’Esports Miguel Buigues Sports Centre.

The Joventut Xàbia B.C. will take care for the healthcare, the ambulance and water for the teams. They will also offer meals at special prices for those who want to eat at the sports centre. Additionally, the teams who want to eat and at specific restaurant can request the organizers to do the reservation for them.

Representatives of the club declared that they decided to organize this tournament following the great success of the 12-hour tournament organized by the club in earlier editions. Now this activity has been extended to include the youngest, by offering a tournament where “infantil” and “cadete” players can warm up for future leagues in 2011-20212.

Teulada-Moraira Auditorium

A couple of weeks ago we published the coming months’ schedule for events at the Teulada-Moraira auditorium. These events used to be performed only in big cities, but they are now available for all residents and visitors of the Costa Blanca North.

One of the top events of this new season will be on 26 December at 19:00 h by the Moscow Ballet performing “The Nutcracker” by Tchaikovsky, a fairy tale in two acts and three scenes. Admission: 25 €.

Trekking routes in Montgo

The “Meet the Montgo” program has scheduled three hiking trips for the last quarter of this year in order to promote the open air tourism and the flora and fauna appreciation at the Montgo Natural Park.

The trekking trips planned from October are the following:

The Plains of Cape San Antonio: This trip will take place on 30 October and will follow the route of the windmills, the cape viewpoints, the Flora reservoir and pine forests of the plains. This route is completely flat, making it very simple and suitable for all ages.

Duration: 2h 30’

La Cova del Camell: On 27 November everyone is invited to this activity through the path of the Colonies to the Cova del Camell (Camel cave), from which you can see spectacular views of the Montgo and Denia and enjoy the local flora.

Duration: 4 hours.

Top of the Montgo: The last trekking trip of the year will take place on 18 December. This route follows the path to the top of Montgo from the Jávea side.

Distance: 6 km

Difficulty: high

Duration: 3h 30’

Oktoberfest in Valencia

The Oktoberfest is the most popular festival in Germany ,particularly in the city of Munich (Bavaria). The “Beer Festival” arrives for the third straight year at Valencia, and this time will be held in one of the most typical Spanish bullring, making a definitely  an interesting union of Spanish and German culture.

The Oktoberfest in Valencia will be held in the bullring until Saturday 17 September, from las12: 30 h to 01:30 h nonstop. To celebrate this great event, a 2000 m² tent has been installed in the bullring. There, all assistants will enjoy the best Bavarian beer, sample the typical south German cuisine as cabbage salads, sausages, pretzels and Bockwurst. This celebration will be accompanied by concerts, performances, live dj’s music, beer-drinking contests, raffles and gifts.

The first time ever that the Oktoberfest took place was in October 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig I to Princess Therese of Saxe-Altenburg and since then the festival has been held every year in the Bavarian city of Munich between late September and early October.

Every year, the Oktoberfest is celebrated in the Costa Blanca North in the town of Calpe with a party that brings many visitors from different parts of Spain and abroad. The Xábia Race for Life will take place next Sunday 25 September at 11:00 h in Arenal beach. This is a race organized by the local Cancer Association and sponsored by the Sports council of Jávea in support of cancer charities like MABS, EOS, ASPANION and AECC.

The 5 km race will start at L’Ancora Playa bar at Paris Ave. of Jávea, at 11.00 h, but the activities will start half an hour before with the warm up session.

Registration forms and sponsorship are available at L’Ancora Playa bar, but you can also download and print the form via web page. Registration must be completed and submitted at L’Ancora Playa bar along with the participation fee before 17 September. You are welcome to register the same day always you do it before 10:15 h. All participants must be present at are expected to show up at least 45 minutes before the start of the race. The participation fee is 10 Euros per adult and 5 Euros per child (under 14 years old). A   non-competitive mountain bike race will be held on Sunday 18 September at 09:00 h as a relaxed, touristic oriented activity organized by BTT Xàbia Bikers club and sponsored by the Sports Council of Javea. The gathering point and departure will be at Jaume I Ave.

Theatrical guided tours in Jávea

During the month of September the theatrical routes will continue in Jávea as a very funny and interesting way of understanding the historic development of the town in the past few centuries.

These guided routes are offered in Castilian Spanish, English and German. Below you will find the date and time of each one of them:

“The Treasure of Xàbia” theatrical route:  10 September at 11:00 h in Castilian. This is a fun option to stroll through the historic center of Javea and to learn about the rich heritage through the guidance and acting of 3 actors portraying historical characters telling anecdotes of everyday life in the town in the yesteryears. The starting point of this 1 hour route will be the Tourist Info Center Xàbia. Registry in advance is required and the price is just 4 € for adults and € 2 for children. Historic Xábia guided tours:

•  13 and 27 September at 19:10 h: guided tour in English.
•  20 September at 19:00 h: guided tour in German.

To participate in these visits must also enroll in one of the Tourist Info Center Xàbia  or call the office in advance. Beaches and Coves in Jávea

For all those who are planning to take a short break or weekend in Jávea during the month of September, we propose a cove and beach route along the coastline. Check the information below and the attached image to find the most suitable option for a perfect beach holiday:

1.- La Grava: La Grava urban beach has been once again awarded with the blue flag as recognition for all the amenities and facilities this place offers to the holiday maker like sea status information, maritime surveillance, first aids center, parking, promenade, bus and taxi service, close hotel offer, restaurants, beach kiosks, floating playground and tourist information point.

2 .- Benissero beach or 1^st Muntanyar: gravel and rock urban beach with information on the status of the sea, maritime outpost, first aids post, bus stops, parking, toilet service, bar, close to hotels, restaurants. In this cove you can enjoy windsurfing and ride scooters.

3. – Arenal:  this is one of the most famous beaches of Jávea. This is an urban blue flag award winning beach which offers facilities such as fresh water tabs, sea status information, maritime surveillance, health post, chairs and umbrellas rental service, walkways, floating playground, sporting games area and motor boats and Jet Ski rental. It is located next to the Arenal promenade and also close to a wide range of restaurants, cafes, and ice cream parlors.

4. – 2^nd Muntanyar beach: This urban rock beach is easily accessible by bus and have its own restaurant.

5. – Cala Blanca: This is a very rustic gravel cove suitable for snorkeling. This cove is equipped with mooring buoys and promenade.

6. – Cala Sardinera: Another nice cove suitable for snorkeling in Jávea. This is a rustic gravel cove with mooring buoys and accessible on foot.

7. – Cala Barraca or Portitxol: This is another gracel cove where you can enjoy kayaking and snorkeling. Among the services available we can find information on the sea tides, hammocks and umbrellas rental, maritime surveillance, health unit, toilet and restaurant service.

8. – Cala Ambolo: This cove is currently closed due to risk of rock fall

9. – Cala Granadella: Rocky cove also awarded with a Blue Flag because of its comprehensive list of services towards the visitors such maritime surveillance, health post, toilet service, restaurant. This place is recommended for snorkeling.

Art exhibits in Javea

Art in Jávea can be seen in every corner of the old town, the port and, of course, in every exhibition hall of the town. Jávea is the town of the Costa Blanca which organizes the largest amount of art exhibitions. Among the most important local exhibitions during the month of September, we can find the ones below:

- Exhibition of Experimental School A. Vives of Gata town in the exhibition hall of the Casa del Cable in Jávea. The exhibition was inaugurated last 2 September and will be open until 25 September.

- “The Magic Mountain” Exhibition by Rubén Martínez Riera at Ca Lambert from Friday, 2 September at 20:00 h until September 30.

- “Xàbia Meravellosa” exhibition. Vicente Domenech is presenting from 1 to 30 September a selection of his best pictures in Area 1 exhibition hall, located on the Almirante Bastarreche square at Duanes del Mar.

- Colectiva’11 exhibit will open on Saturday 3 September at Set Espai d’Art Gallery. This exhibition allows all the artists in the gallery to show their most recent works in  formats as drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation and printmaking. Open until December 1.

- “Patrimoni Vegetal a Xàbia” (Xàbia plant heritage), exhibition at CIRN Foundation is a review of the native plant of Jávea and surrounding areas. This exhibition will remain open from Friday 9 September until 31 October.

- Natasha Marson exposes his “Espacio Cerrado” (Closed Area) from 9 September to 2 October at the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography Soler Blasco.

II Xàbia Swim Crossing

  The Club Náutico Xàbia and the Town Sports Council, in collaboration with the Town of Javea are organizing for next Sunday September 11, 2011 the II Xàbia Swim Crossing. This sports event will comprise two competitions of 400 and 4500 meters, as you can see as follows:

Circuit A, 400 meters:  Triangular test delimited with start and finish signal beacons at La Grava beach by the Port of Javea. The event is scheduled for starting at 10:30 or just after the arrival of the last competitor 4,500 metres test. Collection of competitor’s material will start at 09:00 h until 15 minutes before the competition time.

Circuit B, 4,500 meters:  Lineal competition (starting and finish line in different places). The scheduled time for this circuit will be at 08:30 h at La Caleta beach, and the finish line will be located at the Port and Jávea on La Grava beach. Collection of competitor’s material and cloakroom service will be available from 7:30 to 8:25 h.

Participation in the event is open to all people, underage competitors must apply for a special admission to the organization. Registration can be done online at www.conxip.com. The registration fee is 12 € for non-federated and 10 € for federated athletes. Registration entitles to competition participation, a pack with commemorative T-shirt and food supplies.

The awards ceremony will take place within 20 minutes of the 400 meters (circuit A) finishing. Trophies will be given to the top 3 in each of both men and women categories.

Jávea fiestas by the sea, September 2011

As promised in previous posts, today we bring the rest of the schedule for the fiestas at the Harbour of Jávea 2011, including the full program from Sunday 4 September through last day of the festival, Thursday 8 September.

Sunday 4 September : XX Virgin of Loreto Chess Championship (and XXIII Open Villa de Jávea) at 10:00 h in Severo Ochoa street with the participation of many national and international Masters. Later, at 16:00 h, the II Poker Contest will take place and the same evening -at 22:00 h- the Bradmis orchestra will entertain the Brotherhood Dinner, where organizers will invite drink and dessert.

Monday 5 September at 22:00 h Bradmis orchestra will perform again in the Brotherhood Dinner in the area of ​​Triana.

Tuesday 6 September will be the “Day of the Elderly”. Events organized for that day includes the Offering of Flowers to the Virgin of Loreto at 19:00 h and Serenade night 24:00 h just before the Cuban themed night begins.

Wednesday 7 September: Mass and Solemn Procession to honour “Holy Christ of the Sea” at 19:30 h. Spectacular magazine on the seafront with Noelia Zanon at 23:00 h and street party with music from the 01:00 to 05:00 h at Jaime I Ave.

Thursday 8 September: the last day of the celebrations will be dedicated to the Virgin of Loreto, with loud firecrackers awakening at 8:00 h. Later at 11:00 h will take place a parade and solemn celebration of the Eucharist in honour of the Virgin of Loreto with the attendance of clergy, City Authorities and fishermen council members. After the mass there will be a firecracker show in Via Augusta street. In the afternoon, at 20:00 h, everybody is invited to the procession in honour of Virgin of Loreto on the streets of Duanas. At 22:30 h, the Euphoria band will perform in the dance at the promenade and by midnight the fiestas will end with a beachfront fireworks show.

New Resident Services Office in Jávea

The resident affairs department of the City of Jávea has opened an office for assistance and information to foreigners.

Initially, the office will be based in the municipal building of Casa de Tena, located on Mayor Street but you can take a shortcut through Pastores Street, numbers 2 (the door of rough stone and wrought iron). The opening hours are from 9.30 to 13.30, but users can contact them at any time by email to help@ajxabia.org.

The main goal of this office is to be a helping place for all those non Spanish speaking residents who need to undergo any paperwork, administrative issue or just ask any information concerning to city departments or procedures.

One of the main roles for this new service of the  town hall of Jávea is to inform residents of the functioning of local government and which department should be addressed for each procedure. In this way, Resident Services Office will serve to make come closer the work of the city of Jávea and the registered foreign citizens.

Another of the basic functions of this service is to become a link between neighborhood associations or housing developments with the local government, and collect their views and needs to be channeled to the relevant departments. Also this office will make contact with civic associations, including the University of the Third Age and charities. In a few weeks will begin the calls to different local groups and associations for a first meeting to introduce the service and specify the ways to establish effective contact.

Among the initiatives planned there are also some for Spanish citizens as a basic English course for unemployed people, imparted by English speaking volunteers residents in Jávea. Also it is planned a program called “Hablemos +” (let´s talk more)  a project that brings together people of different origins ​​to help each other improve their foreign languages skills..

Traditional Festivals in Jávea’s Harbour 2011

The traditional festival at Jávea’s harbour in Duanes del Mar to honour the Virgin of Loreto starts on 27 August and ends on 8 September.

The festival comes loaded with activities and events for both residents and visitors of one of the most beautiful town in the region.

This is the full calendar of events and activities taking place during the first days of the festival season at Jávea’s harbour. On 30 August, a new post will follow here with the rest of the calendar, to keep you updated with the latest plans, so that you do not miss anything of these fantastic fiestas.

Saturday 27 August: The festival starts with the XXX Jávea’s Peñya La Bufa Cycling Tour at 18:00 h and the presentation of the fiestas with a music show by the Montecarlo Orchestra will come next at 22:30 h.

Sunday 28 August: XXX Penya La Bufa Marathon at 10:00 h. At about 22:00 h, Semifinals of the III Raspall (traditional game) Professional league, “Reds and Blues” at Jávea`s Trinquet (Valencian ball games court). Brotherhood dinner at the Promenade and concert by the Scream orchestra.

From Monday 29 August to Thursday, 1 September, “Bous a la Mar —Bulls thrown to the sea— at the Jávea’s harbour, at 12:00 h, 19:00 and 23:00 h. At night, “Toro Embolado” —run of bulls which horns are set on fire.

Friday 2 September: It’s the last day of Bous a la Mar and there will be bull runs at 12:00 h and 19:00 h. Simultaneous chess games with the master Francisco Sánchez-Guirado on the Severo Ochoa Street at 18:30 h. At night (22:00 h), the V Paella contest will take place at the area next to the sports centre, with music.

Saturday 3 September: The day starts at 09:30 h with the XII Ping Pong Open and at 10:00 h, the XI 3&3 Mare de Deu del Loreto Basketball Tournament will take place. Free chocolate giveaway will follow at Doctor Fleming Street, together with the traditional milkshake and a “water party”. At night, about at 20:00 h, Great cavalcade from the harbour. Later at 23:00 h, Xàbia Rock Academy at the promenade and at 24:00 h, Correfuegos (fireworks war party) and Macrofestival Disco.com music party at the promenade.

Montgo Park views

Next Thursday August 25^th we propose hiking enthusiasts and all those who want to enjoy a unique opportunity to discover the Montgo under the stars: a night excursion at Montgó natural park along  the trail of “Les Planes”, close to ​​San Antonio Cape.

“Les Planes” green trail is 4.5 km long which can be covered in about 1 hour and 30 minutes. This route starts in the recreational area, located 700 meters before reaching the lighthouse at San Antonio Cape. At the beginning of the trail we will see a parking area near the road by the pines. The area is equipped with tables and benches under the shade of trees, and other facilities available under request to the council of Javea.

From there begins the path down the road that enters the forests of Aleppo pine and takes you to an old police barracks -now in ruins- and then to the Sanctuary of the “Mare de Deu dels Angels” whose current building was a Hieronymite convent until not too long ago, and now is a religious monument. Following the path of the cypress trees, you can reach the mills site, a set of windmills towers unique in Valencia Region. From this point it can be seen a superb sight of the Xabia Bay, Granadella mountains, the Puig de la Llorença and even the the tip of the Rock of Ifach hovering in the background. You also can see the Bèrnia range and Aitana Mountain. What can be seen in this trail is just a superb summary the mountainous character of the district of Marina Alta.

Penya La Bufa Jávea Popular Race

We finally have a fixed date for the Jávea Penya La Bufa popular race organized by the Llebeig Athletics Club of Jávea – Xàbia next Sunday 28 August. The Sports Council of Jávea sponsors the run.

This popular race is celebrating its 30^th edition and has become an event of reference not only in Jávea but also in the rest of the Region of Valencia.

This is not the only race organized by the Llebeig Athletics Club in Jávea. Others are: Town Schools Cross, School Athletics Games, the Walking Route to Jávea and the Bajo Montgó Cross.

The Club D’Atletisme Llebéig Xàbia —which is its real name— has a long and active history:

It was founded as the “Club D’Atletisme Llebéig-Xàbia” association on 26th October 1991. From its start, it has organized different events linked to the athletics world. Since then, it has also managed the Athletics Town School, providing with trainers to get the youngest athletes (9 to 14) started and to integrate athletes 15 and older.

95 out of its 140 current members are active athletes, taking part in popular races, from “the mile” to the marathon or the mountain marathon. The Llebeig athletes have taken part in races all across Spain, and are regulars in half marathons or marathons such as the one in San Sebastián, Salamanca, Sevilla, Barcelona, Madrid, Mora de Rubielos or Valencia. Internationally, they have participated in the marathons of Berlin, Portugal, France, Italy and New York. In the Region of Valencia, they have gone all over it and competed in its races.

Xàbia Visual Week 2011

We have found out that the town hall of Jávea is announcing the Xàbia Visual Week under the motto “INSPIRAR”, a season of conferences about artistic creation taking place from 18 to 20 August.

We have been researching the web to bring additional information about the event and came across their website:  http://www.xabiavisualweek.com/, with comprehensive information on the event.

This initiative aims to socialize art and culture; bring the creative energy and works of the people of Jávea to the general public in the freest possible way.

From the moment of its conception, Xàbia Visual Week was created with the intention of becoming a participative and experimental meeting point around the visual arts and cultural creation including plastic arts, graphic design, photography, video, architecture, infography, interior design, fashion, music, theatre and dance.

This project gathers together the creative minds of Jávea to organize and produce the project, to debate and make decisions for its creation… in short, to make it possible. Each person or collective group can take part for €10. This event was a huge success in 2010 and it is expected to be the same in 2011.

Next Hiking Routes this Summer in Jávea

As usual, the Town Hall of Jávea organized a series of hiking tours and invites you to get acquainted with the natural beauties of its landscapes, be it early in the morning or late with the arrival of the sunset to avoid the hottest hours of the day and make of it a pleasant experience.

These are the guided hiking tours on August and the recommendations for anyone who wishes to join:

Thursday 18 August at 19:00 h, “Cala Barraca” tour; the starting point will be the Creu del Portitxol Viewpoint. The tour takes nearly an hour 30 minutes.

It is considered to be easy and it is advisable to bring drinking water, suitable shoes, a camera and a swimsuit. This is a free tour. You do not have to register in advance anywhere. Just show up on time at the starting point.

Thursday 25 August is for “Ermita de Santa Llucía” route (SL.CV.99). The starting point is the Constitución Square at 19:00 h. This easy path is walked in about 1 hour 30 minutes. Bring water, suitable shoes and a camera (optional). This is a free tour. You do not have to register in advance anywhere. Just show up on time at the starting point.

Sunday 28 August is for the “Granadella” hiking tour: The starting point is the Cala Granadella parking lot at 08:00 h. This is a medium-high difficulty path and it takes some 5 hours to complete. Therefore, you are advised to bring not ony water, suitable shoes and a swimsuit, but also a snack or fast lunch. This is also free of charge and you do not have to register or sign up anywhere in advance.

Exhibitions this Summer in Jávea

This summer, the exhibitions in Jávea do not stop. Both residents and neighbours are therefore invited to enjoy this set of cultural alternatives.

Embark on an art appreciation tour to the galleries of Jávea and discover the beauty behind its streets.

Exhibition of Jávea’s Flora Heritage: This review of the autochthonic flora in Jávea and surrounding areas opens until 15 September. The exhibition takes place at Fundación Cirne (18 Alicante Avenue) Mondays through Fridays, 18:00 h to 21:00 h.

“La Mar de Bien” Exhibition opens until 15 August at Bento’s Galeria. This exhibition of paintings by Oscar Bento also introduces the visitor to the works of Manolo Navas Ribes, Javean artist who works sculptures in different types of stone.

“Jazz” Photo Exhibition: Many different visions of jazz along a walk through Xábia Histórica. The photos are exhibited on the windows of the 24 shops.

Cumbre del Sol and Costa Blanca Video

Fiestas in Jávea’s Portitxol in August 2011

This month of August 2011, there will be the is the Fiesta at Jávea‘s Portitxol. This popular festival is organized by the residents with the help of the town hall. This traditional fiesta was long forgotten, but now residents are trying to bring it back.

This year, the Jávea’s Portitxol fiesta takes place on 13 and 14 August. It will be held on the esplanade of the fince in front of the Portitxol cross. This is the calendar of events to get you ready for this festival:

Saturday, 13th August 2011:

18:30 h. Parade with Dolçaina i Tabalet to start the festival. It will make a circular route starting and ending in the Portitxol cross. First, it will go through the L’Illa street and will return through the road.

19:30 h: Popular snack time with snowballs and sweet buns with cream (bambas).

20:30 h: “Sarao” and dance accompanied by a group of serenaders, the Portitxol band and the “Colla de dolçainas i tabalets” (a group of musicians playing traditional instruments).

22:00 h: Bring your own dinner picnic (drinks can be bought at the venue).

23:00 h: Dance with the Colors orchestra.

Sunday, 14th August 2011:

9:00 h: Wake-up call with the “Colla de dolçainers i tabaleters del Grupo Portitxol” band.

10:00 h: Popular lunch with sardines barbecue.

This is how to arrive to the Portitxol area in Jávea: With a car from Jávea, drive as if going to Cabo La Nao. After about 8 km, take a turn to the left, towards “La Barraca ” restaurant. Park close by. To arrive to Portitxol cove from the restaurant, walk through a nice path with beautiful views that meanders across the residential complex on the hillside. Xàbia Clasica Festival 2011

Classical music aficionados will enjoy 4 fantastic concerts Xàbia from August 10 to 14 with the II Xàbia Clasica Festival.

After the popularity of this festival last year, classical music comes to Jávea once again with renowed acts like that of the Quartet of Bucharest, Il Concerto Accademico, Gabriel Bianco and Boris Andrianov.

The concerts will take place at Plaza del Conservatorio (conservatory square) at 22.00 h.

Tickets will be available the day of the concert at the box office and at the Tourist Offices of Jávea. The price per show is €20, €16 for senior citizens and €10 for students.

August 10: Bucharest Quartet, from the “Lubomir Pipkov” Schoolin Sofia.

The repertoire will include major compositions for quartet of  baroque, romantic and impressionistic authors with some elements of contemporary music.

August 11: Il Concerto Accademico and Margherita Marseglia Concertino.

The set is made up of 14 string players, and the collaboration of wind instruments and percussion. The repertoire includes masterpieces of string orchestra and those most representative of Spanish music.

August 13: Gabriel Blanco. Classical guitar.

22 years old Gabriel Bianco has established himself as a solid impulse in the musical scene. Recently he won the first prize in an International Music Competition held in Madrid. His gear includes Savarez Strings and Karura guitars.

August 14: Boris Andrianov, cello.

One of the most famous Russian musicians of his generation, since 2005 he plays a Montagnana cello from the Russian State Collection. He will perform the Suite 1 of J.S. Bach, Russian Fragments of R. Shchedrin, Lamentatio of G. Soliman and Sonata from Z. Kodaly.

Free movies at Arenal beach in Jávea

During every Tuesday of the ongoing month of August in Jávea,  we all can enjoy free movies on the beach of Arenal at 22:00 hours in the framework of the film cycle “Cine Vora la Mar” organized by the Youth Department of Javea.

Spanish summer comedy by Daniel Sanchez Arevalo.

During a summer holidays, three cousins ​​travel to come to Comillas, the resort town where they spent their childhood vacations, to look for the first girl one of them slept with.

The films will be projected on a screen of nine by five meters installed in the sand on the beach, by the central parking area. Admission is free. Bring your chair or beach towel to lay in the sand.

The Rock of Ifach in Calpe

It has been some time since the town hall of Calpe and the “Sense Limits” association started organizing the first official open waters swimming competition around the Rock of Ifach, an icon of Calpe and the rest of Costa Blanca north.
The “I Volta al Penyal d’Ifac”, which is the name of the competition, will take place on 4th September. It is the first event of its kind in Calpe and we hope to witness more editions in the future.

This event adds up to other sports competitions in the region, such as the XV Jávea Beach Volleyball Open at Arenal Beach, Jávea.

Even though admissions to enter this competition are open until 31st August, we strongly advise you to sign up as soon as you can if you really want to take part. There is space for only 300 athletes and the organization has declared that people has shown a lot of interest in this competition.

Xàbia Jazz 2011

Kiko Berenguer is a well-esteemed man in Jávea and a known musician in the Jazz scene. Thanks to this talented man and with the cooperation of public and private institutions in Jávea, the Xàbia Jazz 2011 International Festival is a reality. And the most editions, the better it gets.

To warm up, Ca Lambert is hosting an exhibition of previous Xàbia Jazz Festivals, with photos and items to take us in a retrospective of this event, which is now internationally known.

The concerts will all take place from 4 to 7 August at Constitución Square, at 22:30 h.

Tickets are available at Servicam. Alternatively, you can check other sale point with the Tourist Info Offices scattered in Jávea.

Admission fees are € 15 per day (€ 12 reduced fee) and €40 for the 4 days (€30 reduced fee).

Club Volei Xàbia (Jávea Volleyball Club)

This season of the year is perfect for beach sports on the Spanish Costa Blanca coast, and the Jávea Sports Council as well as various sports associations in Jávea know this well.

Besides the more informal outdoors sports activities available in the city such as the hiking tours, this summer brings the XV Jávea Beach Volleyball Open.

This 15^th edition of the volleyball open will be held on Arenal beach.

This beach prides itself in being not only one of the beaches with the most and best services in the city, but also as the holder of a Quality Q award and a European Blue Flag.

This event will take place from 5 to 7 August 2011, from 9 in the morning to 23:00 h at night.

There will be other activities besides the open, so if you like action and have plans to visit a beach in Jávea, then we recommend you to go to Arenal beach.

This open is organized by the Club Volei Xàbia (Jávea Volleyball Club) and the Sports Council of Jávea.

Living chess of Jávea 2010

The facilities of the Jávea harbour will host next Saturday, 30^th July at 22:30 h, the XVI living chess of Jávea. Since 1996, this event has been organized by the Mare de Deu de Loreto Fiestas Commission, always with the collaboration of the Local chess club and Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo (CAM Bank).

The “living chess” is actually a theatre play representing a chess match. For this edition, the play will be an adaptation of the most famous Spanish book in history: Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra’s The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha.

It is interesting to note that, given the complexity of this story, there are not many theatrical adaptations of this masterpiece of universal literature; it is usually worked for TV and film, in the shape of movies —for TV or cinema, miniseries or operas.

This adaptation of Cervante’s work into a theatre play was made by one of the organizers: Dionis Henarejos, who counted on the experience of being part of the group that brought to the theatre play format a poem called “Scachs d’Amor, considered a classic of the Region of Valencia, dating back from XIV century.

Summaland Xàbia 2011

Approximately one month ago, we published information in this blog about the organization of the Summaland Festival 2011 in Jávea.

It is not the first edition of the Summaland festival, and every one of the previous editions were famous for bringing to Spain some of the most relevant figures of the electronic and dance music scene.

Right now, the team of organizers is working nonstop to make of this event an unforgettable dance party this weekend. In the meanwhile, we found out more details about this festival:

It will be held on the plot that now serves as a parking lot for Arenal beach. It will not take place in Arenal Beach exactly but a couple of blocks away, on the corner of Tamarit Avenue and Salobres Street.

The lineup will include Juan Magan, Barcelona’s Javi Mula, Ministry of Sound DJs and We Love Asere, an electronic music collective including musicians such as Victor Magan, Josepo, Rivero, Maurizio Gubellini , Takeshi Kurosawa, Salgado, David Campoy, P Dumore and Jo C.

Port of Jávea

Besides being an established and popular destination for the practice of extreme sports, Jávea is also popular among those who enjoy hiking and classic mountain-related activities, due to the many paths available.

Next week, for example, there will be two guided hiking tours on two different established paths. This is the information of these tours:

Thursday, 28 July: Ermita Santa Lucía hiking tour. This path is also called SL-CV-99.

Difficulty: Low.

Lenght: 1:30 h.

Starting point: Constitución Square.

Starting time: 19:00 h.

Sunday, 31 July: Route Jávea harbour – Cap Sant Anotni – Picnic area – Santuari – Molins – Jávea harbour. This route is officially known among hikers as PR-CV-355.

Difficulty: Low.

Lenght: 3 hours.

Starting point: Parking lot of the Jávea harbour fish market.

Starting time: 09:00 h.

To take part, all you have to do is put some sunscreen on, take some liquid to hydrate on the way and show up on time at the mentioned meeting points. Just say you would like to join and that is it.

Historical Tours of Javea

Thinking of those who visit us from other countries, the Jávea Tourism Council organized a series of historic city centre tours in different languages back in April.

The languages of the guided walks will be English, French and German.

This is the schedule of guided tours and the languages of each tour for July and August this year:

Jávea Music Conservatory

The Town Hall of Jávea, aware of the importance of cultural events and activities for residents and tourists alike, organizes for another year the music event called “Música a L’Estiu”. This is the 26th edition.

This series of concerts bring some of the best musicians in the international chamber music scene to both instruct on techniques and how to manage the instruments , as well as to play concerts and make Javeans enjoy with their music.

Cala Granadella

The Granadella-Castell PR-CV-354 route is one of the most popular ones among local experienced hikers. It is of medium difficulty and it takes approximately 3 hours to complete.

This route starts at the parking lot of Cala Granadella in Jávea. It will go across the called “variante Teulería”, which is nothing but a shortcut. If we did the complete route, it will take more than 4 hours to complete.

Hikers will be able to pass the ruins of the Granadella Tower (Castell de la Granadella) and enjoy the nice views from the cliffs and the beautiful flora and fauna along the way.

We recommend you to bring your camera to take home some of the beautiful sights from the highest spots of the path.

To join the adventure of hiking this path, please show up on 24th July at 09:00 h at the Cala Granadella parking lot, by the restaurant.

You do not need to sign up anywhere and the guide is free, but make sure you show up on time.

XIV International Jazz Festival of Alicante

Once again, Alicante province leads the international music scene in the region with festivals such as the Low Cost Benidorm 2011. This time, it is the XIV International Jazz Festival of Alicante. Handcrafts fair

The town of Jávea gets ready to celebrate summer in style with one of the most rooted traditions in the Spanish Mediterranean. We are talking about the Moors and Christians festival —Moros y Cristianos— that this time will be heldat the same time of a medieval market with handcrafts and traditional food.

The handcrafts fair will be set in Jávea, at El Caracol multicultural space (former drive-in cinema) and will open nonstop until the 18^th September from 18:00 h to 24:00 h.

This street market will host themed weeks such as the tapas week, beers week, Arab market and Andalusian night.

Then, there will be the Moors and Christians festival. We are sure the people of Jávea will give thir best to make of this traditional festival an event to remember, with complex historical representations, delicious food, impressive fireworks and breathtaking musical and religious shows.

Views from the Montgó

Next Saturday, 16^th July, there will be a different activity for those who enjoy hiking. There will be a hiking tour to the Montgó nature park, but it will not be the traditional route. This one will have a twist. This outdoors activity will take place at night; the good thing of this is the fresher air during the night in contrast with the heat during this summer season. Also, there is an added difficulty to this activity: Participants will need a lot more of attention, sense of orientation and being more mountain-wise.

Because of the complexity of this activity, only those with the proper mental and physical conditions to face this challenge will be able to take part in it.

The hike starts at 22:00 h. Hikers will meet at the parking of Jávea’s shooting range. From there, people will be taken to the starting point on a bus.

The activity is expected to last 7 hours, which means people will be arriving back with the sunrise.

To join the hiking group, please sign up firs at the Tourist info offices of Jávea. Be quick, because the capacity is limited. The fee to enter the group is €5 and the organizers recommend you to bring water, food, proper shoes, photo camera, something for the cold weather and a torch.

Friday, 15th July: Temperatures recede until an interval from 20°C to 29°C, with winds blowing at 15 km/h east.

Finally, we can confirm the definitive lineup of artists taking part in the Low Cost Benidorm Festival 2011. For 3 days and its nights, national and international artists will meet in Benidorm, the party capital of the Spanish Costa Blanca.
