Valencia’s Fallas is a traditional festival where everything related to fire, sound and traditional arts go hand in hand together for two weeks, but with preparation lasting the whole year.
Burning down the paper sculptures symbolizes cleansing and a new beginning, because the creative process of the following year’s Fallas begins as soon the current year’s edition comes to an end with the cremà.
Throughout the year, Falleras (Fallas yesteryear-dressed ladies), fireworks experts and artists prepare non-stop for the two most important weeks of Valencia: Las Fallas.
The Ninot exhibition opened on 5 February and the Fallera Gala was held on 25 February.
These were just some of the prelude events before the official starting shot, which this year was on 27 February with the classic despertá (awakening).
Mediterranean Festival 29/05 to the 30/06 Valencia
The 3rd Mediterranean Festival (III Festival Mediterrani) to be held in Valencia from May the 29th to June the 30th 2010. The president of the festival is Zubin Mehta; the festival holds a month of opera, concerts, chamber music, recitals, lectures, dramatic reading, cinema and many other activities Valencia.
