From next Thursday, 28th April through Tuesday 3rd May, Jávea will celebrate its festivities to honour Jesus of Nazareth (Natzaré).
This fiesta is one of the most important religious and traditional celebrations in Jávea. Every third Sunday of Lent, hundreds of devotees congregate to take the image of Jesus of Nazareth down in procession from the chapel of Calvary to the parish church of Sant Bertomeu in the center of town. Then, on 3rd May, a new procession accompanies the image up again to its place on Calvary.
For these dates the town of Jávea organizes many events, both religious and pagan, highlighting the release of young bulls through different streets of the town, the mascletás (fire crackers) and fireworks, masses and processions.
One of the most popular activities in this fiesta is the contest Les Creus de Maig (Maypole), to be held on 2nd and 3rd May.
This competition consists on manufacturing of flowers made crosses, which are set out in the streets of the town where the organizers of the Nazarene Fiesta live.
